REDBULL SOAP BOX

Always looking to live life to the full, in 2017 Alex beat thousands of applicants for one of only 70 places in the biennial RedBull Soapbox race in London.

Their design - a 1930’s white Rolls Royce.  Alex researched 3D design software and, using his engineering and design skills, designed the chassis from scratch complete with suspension. The go-cart would have to negotiate various obstacles and jumps on the way down the hill.

The run went well, but after suffering brake failure on the way down, they crashed into straw bales at the end and unbeknown to her at the time, his co-driver (Paula) fractures her arm. Despite that, the team finishes in the top ten.

Successful again in 2019 and following ‘The Wedding Belles’ story from 2017, the theme this time was ‘The Honeymooners’. A giant sun lounger was constructed, with 6’ palm trees and a big pink inflatable flamingo.

Alex and the team are already planning for future events, but before that the original Soapbox has been rebuilt as the original white Rolls Royce which Alex and Paula used as their departure vehicle in their actual wedding on 7 September 2019.
